The headline for April 2019 is:
Accenture sued for a website redesign so bad that it Hertz: Car rental business demands $32 million+ to fix ‘defective’ cyber-revamp
After consulting failed to deliver a functional website or mobile app, a rental company was left fuming
Hertz hired Accenture in 2016 to redesign its online presence. The new website is expected to launch in December 2017. After many delays, the project was finally completed in December 2017. Here is where the real problems started. Hertz complained about the website’s inability of responding to his requests. They also complained that the code was so bad it was both a security- and performance nightmare. Accenture was also accused for not testing the software.
What?! How can a project of this size get so off track?
Kelly and I will be discussing Hertz-Accenture. In the video below, we discuss the many ways projects have been allowed slip through the cracks. This case is quite high-profile and involves a lot of stakes, but it’s not uncommon in the world project management.
This lawsuit can teach us a lot. This lawsuit serves as a reminder for project managers to be precise in their project documentation and to take good notes.
It also emphasizes the importance of a thorough requirements gathering. This eliminates any assumptions and interpretations about functionality or features. This case is discussed and it becomes clear that Accenture and Hertz had very differing definitions of responsive design.
