Microsoft announced in January that more than 20 active exams would be retiring. Microsoft announced that the exams would be retired in January. However, this announcement may not affect you if you are still using the technology or have plans to obtain the certification.
While Microsoft may retire certifications and exams, it doesn’t mean they will automatically expire or disappear off your transcript. While certifications can no longer be earned after retirement, your passed certifications will still be listed in the Active Microsoft Certifications section. Your certification listing will be moved into the Legacy Microsoft Certifications section two years after the exam’s expiration date.
Here are seven strategies to pass Microsoft’s retiring exams if you’re up to the challenge.
1. Be realistic.

Start training Be realistic about your foundational knowledge, and what you can do to prepare in the shortest time possible. If you have never worked with Active Directory before, is it realistic to plan to take Exam 70-664: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuring? Is it in line with your career goals? 2. Register and create a schedule.
This strategy is in line with the “be realistic” recommendation. It’s important to register early for the exam and plan your preparations accordingly. To ensure you have enough time to complete the study strategies and take the exam, work backwards from your retirement date. Make sure to take note of any conflicts or commitments you may have during this time and plan accordingly.

3. Take a course.
Preparing for the Microsoft certification exam is the best strategy. There are a variety of Microsoft courses that can be accessed via video, so you can either start learning about the subject or refresh your knowledge on past topics.
4. Study a book or a study guide.
Some people are visual learners while others may be better at reading the written word. Many have study guides and books available online for free or can be purchased through retailers due to the popularity of Microsoft certifications.
5. You can practice by doing.
Are you familiar with the technologies that you will need to pass the exam? Fantastic! It’s amazing!
A virtual lab is a great way to practice for your exam if you aren’t among the fortunate few who have access to the equipment. You can practice with the labs in your study materials and create your own scenarios to prove your proficiency with the technology. You can create your own solutions by not following the steps provided in your study materials.
6. Practice tests.
